Blown highlights

I had a shoot for a family a couple of weeks ago. I told Squirt I'd take his picture if he was good and allowed me to wander around and take theirs. For a three year old I have to say my boy's pretty good. So he got his picture taken and some one on one mom attention. I had my settings wrong but was sweating by the time it was his turn and just wanted to get.... I can take my boy's pictures anytime right?? So.... the highlights are blown. I've had some time tow ork on the shot a bit and this is what I came up with.

Baby portraits

I took these Sunday, very impromptu and didn't have the greatest of lighting for it.
I didn't think they turned out too bad.

She does have her daddy's eyes and nose.

It has been very cool to watch a daddy fall in love with his daughter!

School Days!

My son started preschool yesterday. I didn't think we were going to be able to find a way for him to go to school this fall. But it all worked out! Mom and I dropped him off yesterday. His teacher was a year ahead of me in high school and it appeared I knew a few of the other parents. It was a pretty hectic morning so I'm not sure which kids were with which parents. Some kids were crying, but my son just wanted his momma to go on so he could be about his business at school. Always the independent one. I know he didnt want to talk to momma on the phone after Grandma picked him up either. And when I got home that evening he didn't say a whole lot about school. He said he sang two songs and did a puzzle. Mom said he said something about wanting to color and the teacher said no. I'm sure that upset him not being able to do what he wanted when he wanted to do it. I'm very glad that he's getting the structure and challenge he needs in so many aspects of preschool. I'm sure he'll make lots of friends. He's ready to go again in the morning!

Dawn of a new day

I took a picture of the sunrise this morning as I was pulling out of my mom's driveway. A fresh start to a new day!
My life has become pretty busy. My son started preschool this week. The countdown to football season has begun and is ticking along really well. I've also enjoyed spending my time to get to know someone that has become very special in my life. I've known Mike for four, close to five years. We've even hung out a few times over the years but the time was just never right for us to enter into a relationship.
I've spent the last three years single and had prayed for the right man to be in my life. Every aspect of life has challenges and hurdles. Starting a relationship with Mike has been no different. He has a daughter! A beautiful, healthy four week old daughter.
My son and Mike get along awesome. I couldn't ask for a better situation for my son. He has had to get used to not being the center of attention 100% of the time time but I think that's really good for him, especially with him starting school.

Baby portraits

I'm seriously counting down to football season and hope that my photography picks back up. I could really use the extra cash! Being poor really isn't fun sometimes.
We've done a few portraits this summer. I had the opportunity to photograph this precious girl this weekend.
All were taken with natural light and/or a bounced flash.

Zoo

Mike took Squirt and I to the Zoo on Saturday. It was a day of free admission. We appreciated the cheap entertainment. We had a pretty good weekend, busy but good. I'm so glad I'm spending my time with a man that understands my son is first in my life and includes him and activities that he enjoys when he wants to spend time with me!

We stopped off at the elephants first. Squirt answered the phone and listened to an explination of the exhibt while watching elephants play in the yard.

They had baby tiger cubs. This guy was showing us his teeth!

The mighty lion! Looks like he's staring straight at me.

Mike checking out the penguins.

Squirt thought this guy was Mumble from Happy Feet.

Space Museum

After the Zoo we went across the road to the Air and Space Museum.

Checking out the airplane seats!

My son the pilot.... they LET him push buttons. He loved that!

Mike trying out the bed of nails...

Squirt had to try too!

Waterpark

My Aunt Deanie invited Squirt and I to a waterpark in a nearby town Friday. The waterpark wasn't huge but it was fun. Squirt had a blast. They had a kiddie pool area where there was water spouts and slides and toys to climb on and just get wet. The water was only maybe knee deep on me at the deepest.

We took a break from swimming to grab a bite to eat.

My son wanted a "bread dog"

Then he carried the stick around like a silly dog!
